Autumn is about to end – Jenny

There's no prize in this race; the prize is elsewhere,

Here only to be run for. There's no harvest

Though all around the fields are white with harvest.

There is our journey's ground: we pass unseeing.

But we have watched against the evening sky,

Tranquil and bright, the golden harvester.

Edwin Muir

Autumn is about an ending

Here in our rural environment we are so blest being able to watch the leaves falling, sometimes singly, at other times streaming down. Those who live in our valleys see both the early sunrise and the last ‘tranquil and bright’ evening sky high above.

Autumn also holds the promise of spring, something that Muir captures so well.

Advent is about an ending - and a beginning

At the end of this year, and particularly with the Covid19 virus at large, may we prayerfully watch and wait - for Advent holds the promise that God is ever with us.
