The gospels of Matthew and Mark give details of the last Passover meal at which Jesus shared bread and wine with his followers. Soon after, he was betrayed, arrested and crucified. The Eucharist or Holy Communion is a way of remembering the words and sacrifice of Jesus.

From the gospels of Matthew and Mark
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it. He gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take this, this is my body”
Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them and they all drank from it.
“This is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins.”
