Christmas around the world…

Somewhere Hot – Barbados

Christmas lunch in Barbados isn't complete without a baked ham decorated with pineapple, a rum cake, and Jug Jug. What‛s Jug Jug? It‛s a bit like Scottish haggis but combines pigeon peas, guinea corn flour, herbs, and meat. Very tasty!

Somewhere Hot – Denmark

In the past, before Christianity came to Denmark, there was a winter celebration called Jól that celebrated the return of brighter days and eventually the same time of celebration was taken over for Christmas.

These days Christmas Eve is the main focus. Families go to church in the afternoon and then the men and boys in the family shut themselves in the room where the Christmas tree is and decorate it. The women and girls are not allowed to admire the decorated tree until after the evening meal when everyone exchanges presents, sing carols and dances by the tree. Sounds fun!
